March 31, 2006, Newsletter Issue #10: PC Remote Control Make Cents, and Dollars Too

Tip of the Week

The ability to control a remote PC isn’t simply nerdy parlor trick. It can actually be a big time and money saver for your IT department. Semantic has found that by using remote control software helpdesks can save 6-13% on their budget, and WebEx has similarly found that IT departments using support software save time and money supporting the systems for which they are responsible.

Studies of CPAs has even found that the ability to access their accounting books from home via remote pc control makes them much more productive, especially during tax season as it allows them to go home without abandoning any of their data.

If your organization hasn’t heard of or found a use for remote control software, you should re-evaluate the need. The software itself is relatively cheap for commercial products and free for basic, non-commercial needs, and if you have to provide any internal IT support at all then you’ll be well served to consider picking up some good remote control software.
